This raw piece of black tourmaline on a metal base brings a strong, graphic accent to the interior. The deep black of the mineral, known as schorl, results from its high iron content, while the lengthwise striations of the crystals emphasise the vertical rhythm of the form. Pale areas of host rock create a striking contrast with the dark mass.
Tourmaline is hard but brittle along its crystal lines, so it should be handled with care. It is best cleaned with a dry, soft cloth.
