A Little Blue World in Lapis Lazuli
Deep blue gives this lapis lazuli a rich, enveloping colour, broken by pale grey patches and scattered gold-coloured flecks. Its elongated, irregular oval has rounded edges and a smooth, glossy surface, with fine speckled mottling that keeps the blue from feeling like a single flat shade.
Lapis lazuli also has a connection to an artist’s palette: its blue lazurite was ground to make ultramarine pigment.
Seen as a tiny imagined landscape, the pale patches might become islands reflected in deep water. The scattered flecks lend that little world a glimmer, each gold-coloured mark a small interruption in the broad blue.
