A Little Landscape in Howlite
This howlite chip bracelet traces an oval in predominantly white pieces, with thin grey lines wandering across several surfaces. Rounded and angular outlines meet in uneven sizes, giving the loop a varied rhythm. Bright highlights catch the smooth-looking surfaces, contrasting with the distinct shadow beside the bracelet.
Howlite takes its name from Henry How, the chemist and mineralogist who first described it. That human connection adds another layer of interest to these pale chips, where a slight sheen brings out the differences from one piece to the next.
In an imagined terraced garden, the chips could become winding steps between beds of leaves. Their grey markings suggest little paths, while each irregular outline gives the next terrace its own turn—a miniature landscape gathered into an oval.
