Cairo Night, Scattered with Light

The Cairo night sphere draws you into a blue so deep it nearly becomes black. It is a human-made decorative piece. Tiny silvery-white and pinkish speckles crowd its glossy surface, a dense scattering that gives the dark colour a delicate liveliness. A bright white reflection makes a rounded pool of light, with smaller sparkling highlights picking out the fine pattern around it.

There is a pleasing contrast between the simple spherical outline and all those minute details. In an imagined luminous cavern, it might be a little globe of night, its pale flecks answering the glow of distant walls. Yet the pinkish points give this night its own character: a softer colour tucked among the silver, like a few unexpected stars.
