Alum

Alum’s Violet Terraces

From pale lavender to deep violet, this alum piece gathers its colour into a broad, irregular mound. Closely packed angular faces give it a glossy, lively surface, catching bright white reflections between jagged edges and pointed projections. Some areas appear translucent, offering a softer counterpoint to the crisp outlines.

Seen as a little imagined landscape, its many triangular faces might become the terraces of a violet garden, with pale paths climbing towards pointed ridges. Look closer and the view turns intimate: fine lines and uneven markings interrupt the shine on some faces. White highlights pick out individual planes among the crowded purple angles.
